America finally has two candidates facing-off for the Presidency; John McCain and B. Hussein Obama. As what is now known as an "independent conservative", I must convey how important it is to head to the ballot box in November thinking clearly and understanding what it is you are getting into. For many conservatives who once had a party in the Republicans we could trust with our values but today only have a group of weak and feckless liberal panderers, this election is extremely difficult to digest. Conservatives lost this election the moment John McCain became the nominee of the Republican Party. America now has a choice between a Democrat and a Communist.
When people like me bring up McCain's horrible record and the painfully obvious fact that he hates conservatives I am typically reminded that regardless of McCain's faults, of which there are many; he will nominate strict constructionists to the Supreme Court. These delusional individuals insult my intelligence and the intelligence of any other conservative who is not busy taking a tour of their own backside. First and foremost; we have not been able to trust McCain on anything else with the possible exception of the War and now those few of us who still live here on Earth are expected to trust John McCain on Supreme Court nominations because he says so. Why? Because his long record of standing up for conservative principles lends credibility to the position? What conservative record? Or maybe I am to believe this ridiculous fantasy because Republicans have such a wonderful record of fighting for conservative nominees to the Court? I don't think so.
President George H. W. Bush, a liberal, gave us Justice Seuter. A man who is quite possibly functionally illiterate. When Ginsberg was nominated to The Court by the Democrats, a woman who believes the age of consent should be twelve, Republicans passed her through without a fight. When President George W. Bush nominated another liberal, Harriet Meyers, to The Court; it took the extremely outspoken Ann Coulter yelling from the rooftops to alert everyone to the fact. Only kicking and screaming did Meyers get withdrawn and replaced with a conservative; now Justice Sam Alito. What really happened is that Bush gave us a brilliant conservative in Chief Justice Roberts and then thought he could sneak a liberal in under our noses because she is a good friend. All these statements are provable facts. None of it suggests that just because a Republican is in charge we will get conservative nominees. Only by completely ignoring this evidence and McCain's long liberal record in the Senate can an individual delude themselves into believing he will nominate strict constructionist conservatives to The Court no matter what. It is deplorable and offensive to continue attempting to convince conservatives that John McCain's Supreme Court nominee credentials are acceptable.
Global warming hysteria. McCain has made this a cornerstone of his campaign. The Democrat Senator of the Republican Party has clearly stated that he does not want to see oil companies continue to make "obscene profits". Did anyone besides me notice that McCain never defined "obscene"? This means he is going to work with Democrats to arbitrarily tax oil companies into the ground while continuing to refuse to let them drill in the ground so you and I don't pay "obscene" prices at the pump. John McCain is more worried about CO2 emissions and Americans who make too much money providing vital services than he is the American People. McCain has no intention of cutting spending, but will instead raise taxes (costs that will be passed on to the consumer) to pay for his lunatic global warming policies.
Closing the Guantanamo Bay terrorist detention facility and waging the War Against Islamic Fascists. This is where I have serious questions about how John McCain will wage the War in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our soldiers risk their lives to kill and capture terrorists, and McCain wants to turn them loose into our court system while giving them lawyers thereby greatly increasing the chance these monsters will be released. So tell me how it is again that McCain is so great on the War? You really can't because he's not. In fact, I have yet to hear one specific on how McCain intends to wage the War as President. We don't even know what his strategy is. We do know, and this I believe, that McCain will not retreat from Iraq. Victory in Iraq is the one and only thing conservatives can agree with him on, and it's not even a conservative issue... it's an American one.
The record of John McCain suggests a great deal of "reaching across the aisle" will occur frequently if he is elected President. Conservatives don't want to reach across the aisle because the other side is insane. I don't care about working with them. What I want is to defeat liberalism, not compromise with it. John McCain is the worst Republican nominee modern conservatives have been forced to accept.
I know who the two candidates are and I don't need to be reminded of it every time I turn on the television or radio. We aren't stupid, so stop telling us over and over again is if we are all drones influenced by shear repetition. We get it! That however does not mean I'm going to become a blind bat for John McCain. As conservatives we must think clearly and understand exactly what we are getting into. Otherswise we are going to be ill prepared to fight both McCain and the Democrat Party for our values. Will I vote for a Democrat over a full-blown Communist? Of course I will. I will also go into it my way, not theirs, armed with the facts and the conservative values which make me the proud American I am today. No election will change that.
