John Edwards: A Story of Redemption

Why am I reminded of Jim Baker of "Jim and Tammy Fae Baker" fame?  "Oh Lord I have sinned against you!"  Should America forgive John Edwards?  No doubt he has repented and is in the process of atoning for his sins.  It's probably not even his fault.  Maybe John Edwards has simply been attending the wrong church all these years.  Perhaps the filthy scumbag didn't even know what he was doing was wrong until just a week or so ago.

This is America!  We love the celebrity fall, and we love a celebrity redemption.  A true success story; that's John Edwards.  Now, let's stick him in front of a camera and get him to say something patriotic!
Many are bitter and disillusioned after swallowing his lies about his affair with a campaign staffer and vouching for his credibility with friends and journalists.

Some ignore his plaintive phone entreaties and don't call back - even when Edwards leaves follow-up messages. A few return his calls - and give him a piece of their angry minds.

When Edwards reached one longtime confidant asking for advice, he was cut off with a terse: "I don't want you to call me again."

The conversation ended abruptly.

"I let you down, and I'm sorry," is a common refrain of these messages, said another top ex-assistant on the receiving end of one of the calls.

"It was kind of pathetic, to tell you the truth," said the ex-aide, who said he didn't return the call and doesn't expect to speak to his former boss again.
Obviously John Edwards' former staff members don't understand their duty to forgive and welcome this adulterous piece of human garbage back into their lives.  What is wrong with these people!?!?!?  It is almost as if they don't believe John Edwards is telling the truth.  Cynics.
