My prayers have been answered! Slow Joe Biden has been chosen as Barack Obama's running-mate:
Barack Obama is preparing to appear on stage Saturday afternoon with his running mate for the first time after announcing early in the morning that he had picked Delaware Sen. Joe Biden for the second spot on the Democratic presidential ticket.
The announcement ended days of frenzied speculation about who his vice president pick would be, with Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine and Indiana Senator Evan Bayh remaining strong contenders as late as Friday evening.
Hillary Clinton, Obama’s close rival throughout the Democratic primaries, also had been in the running for a spot on the ticket. She was not considered a leading candidate for the job, though Obama’s campaign still may need to overcome the lingering bitterness some of her supporters feel over the tenor and outcome of the primary race to court them in the general election.
Sen. Clinton was among the first to applaud Obama on Saturday for his choice.
“In naming my colleague and friend Senator Joe Biden to be the Vice Presidential nominee, Senator Obama has continued in the best traditions for the vice presidency by selecting an exceptionally strong, experienced leader and devoted public servant,” Clinton said in a written statement. “Senator Biden will be a purposeful and dynamic vice president who will help Senator Obama both win the Presidency and govern this great country.”
Former Clinton Communications Director and FOX News contributor Howard Wolfson said that, after Clinton, he thought Biden was “the best possible pick that Barack Obama could have made.”
“I think he brings a wealth of experience and he is a great campaigner and I think he is a very fine pick,” Wolfson told FOX News on Saturday.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid also expressed strong support for Biden.
“Joe Biden has been fighting his entire career for the change that Sen. Obama champions,” Reid said in a written statement. “He is a dedicated family man who has been an effective chairman of both the Foreign Affairs and Judiciary Committees, has been a sage voice on many of the toughest foreign policy issues of our time, and has long been a strong advocate for protecting American families and making our communities safer.”
Meanwhile, John McCain, Obama’s Republican rival for the presidency, plans to call Biden sometime Saturday today to congratulate his long-time senate colleague on his placement on the opposing ticket, a McCain aide told FOX News.
Biden, 65, has twice sought the White House, and is a Catholic with blue-collar roots, a generally liberal voting record and a reputation as a long-winded orator.
Team McCain responds to the news by launching a new campaign ad:
With the ink barely dried on the news Saturday morning that Barack Obama had chosen Joe Biden as his running mate, John McCain’s campaign released a TV ad using Biden’s own words against Obama.
In particular, the ad shows 2007 footage of an ABC debate with the Democratic presidential candidates in which Biden affirmed his belief that Obama is not ready to be president.
“You were asked, ‘Is he ready?’” the moderator, ABC’sGeorge Stephanopoulous, says to Biden. “You said, ‘I think he can be ready but right now, I don’t believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training,’”
“I think that I stand by the statement,” Biden responds, with Obama standing to his right on the stage.
The ad also shows Biden on a 2005 segment on “The Daily Show” saying, “I would be honored to run with or against John McCain, because I think the country would be better off.”
Apparently the "on the job training" which Barack Obama will so desperately require as President will be tutored by none other than the man who cautioned America to not do just that. Can you imagine? Barack Obama has put himself into the position of having to endure lecture after lecture after lecture from Blowhard Biden on every subject imaginable throughout his tenure in the White House. I almost feel sorry for Barack on this one... almost.
Is there really any question as to which one of these men will actually be running the country if Obama is elected President? No question in my mind that Biden will be in charge, and if not in charge he will surely be heard... and heard... and heard. In fact, it's possible no one at all will be runnning the country if Obama is elected because they won't be able to get Biden to stop bloviating and blubbering long enough to actually do anything!
Now all we have to worry about is whether or not John McCain will actually be stupid enough to pick a pro-choice abortionist for his running-mate. Surely not. Then again, I was once sure the GOP was not stupid enough to pick John McCain as our nominee. So really any possibility is on the table.
Do you realize if McCain picks a Senator as his running-mate the American voter will have only Senators to choose from for President this November? We could be looking at idiots who came straight from our completely dysfunctional Senate as the leaders of our country for the next 16 years. Almost unthinkable. Our Senate has done more to hurt this country over the past two decades than any other group inside the country, aside from liberals in general that is. If McCain wants to win, he had better pick a Governor or at least a Congressman.
As a sidenote, the Biden pick was obviously made to strengthen Obama's woefully lacking national security and foreign policy experience. The fun part here is that while everyone in Washington might think Joe Biden is just great, the rest of the country sees him as a thoughtless baffoon. A McCain-Romney ticket would destroy an Obama-Biden ticket on national security and foreign policy. One down, one to go. Let's hope McCain makes the right choice now that many of us have gotten what we wanted with Obama.
