TEHRAN — The head of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards has warned that any Israeli or US attack on its nuclear sites would mean the outbreak of war, the official IRNA news agency reported on Friday.
"Any action against Iran will be interpreted as the start of a war," General Mohammad Ali Jafari was quoted as saying late on Thursday. "Iran's response to any military action will make the aggressors regret their decision."
The United States has never ruled out an eventual resort to force against Iran over its contested nuclear programme, which the West fears is cover for a drive to build an atomic weapon.
Israel, which is widely believed to be the Middle East's sole if undeclared nuclear power, has said it will stop Tehran from developing a nuclear bomb at all costs.
US media reported that more than 100 Israeli warplanes staged a training exercise with Greece last month to prepare for a possible long-distance strike and as a warning to Tehran.
Jafari warned Israel last week not to attack the Islamic republic, saying that the Jewish state was well within range of Iranian missiles.
Iran insists that its nuclear programme is peaceful and aimed only at energy production, vehemently denying allegations that it wants atomic weapons.
Currently under three sets of UN Security Council sanctions for its refusal to suspend sensitive uranium enrichment, Iran is set to respond to an offer of incentives by world powers aimed at resolving the nuclear stand-off.
The country's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili on Thursday expressed optimism that nuclear talks could start with world powers, but also stressed the importance of a package put forward by Tehran.
Iran's own package is a more all-embracing effort to solve global problems, and notably suggests the setting up of a consortium in Iran to enrich uranium.
Nothing gets past the Iranians. "Any action against Iran will be interpreted as the start of a war," says an Iranian General. Ya think? For once I agree with an Islamic fascist! Yes General Obvious, an attack on Iran's nuclear weapons facilities will be an act of war. One that has been a long time coming. It is statements like that which almost make me feel sorry for Iran. Almost but not quite.
Allow me to be very clear. My country invented nuclear weapons, not anyone else. The technology for nuclear weapons belongs to us and was stolen by the Soviet Union who allowed it to be proliferated throughout the world and into the hands of enemies who should have never possessed such technology to begin with. Any nation other than the United States and Israel that has nuclear weapons technology has it because they stole it!
A common liberal idiocy is: the United States has nuclear weapons so why shouldn't others? The answer is, again, because they stole it! Liberals expect conservatives to back-off from the belief that we should not be the only country in the world with nuclear weapons. I could not disagree more. The United States of America and to a lesser degree Israel should be the only two nations in all the world in command of nuclear weapons. There, I said it! Don't like it? You cannot possibly think I care at this point. I have a very good reason that no other nation should possess this technology today, even Great Britian who is being over-run by fools who support enacting Sharia Law.
Iran has no right to possess nuclear weapons technology. None. What they do have a right to however is to stop killing American soldiers in Iraq, stop funding and supplying Hamas and Hezbollah, and to generally stop being evil. Do those things first, and then we can entertain discussing whether or not Iran should have any sort of nuclear technology. Here's another idea! If Iran wants nuclear energy, then allow inspectors to verify that the technology is not being used to create weapons. I know, it's a magically fantastical concept to most liberals.
Nuclear weapons are not an intellectual thought experiment to be toyed with. The power to split the atom and unleash destruction on such a massive scale should never be put in the hands of unstable governments and cruel dictators. The failure to grasp this fact is a testament to the moral stupidity of every liberal and the wider international community, which liberals show more allegiance to than their own country.
All we hear from the left concerning nuclear technology is how dangerous it is. If that is the case then all Democrats and every liberal should be screaming from the rooftops for a military strike on Iran. What exactly do they think Iran is going to do with nukes? Worship them like some post-apacolyptic cult from Planet of the Apes? The thought of a country like Iran possessing nuclear weapons should strike deep concern into the minds of all civilized people regardless of their political persuasion.
